PRANCE metalwork is a leading manufacturer of metal ceiling and facade systems.
An Office Building in Mingshan,Yaan features a distinctive entrance canopy designed to provide shelter while enhancing the building's modern aesthetic. The canopy's curved and irregular structure posed significant challenges for cladding it with aluminum panels, requiring precise measurement, tailored panel design, and careful installation. PRANCE was responsible for both the 3D measurement and the supply of custom aluminum panels, ensuring the canopy met functional and aesthetic requirements.

The key challenges in this project stemmed from the unique geometry of the canopyand the need for precision throughout the measurement, production, and installation processes.
The entrance canopy's curved design posed a significant challenge for traditional measurement methods. High-precision data was necessary to ensure that the aluminum panels fit seamlessly with the building's irregular shape.
Each panel had to be customized to fit the curvature of the canopy structure, requiring detailed design and careful fabrication to ensure that the panels would fit perfectly without the need for on-site adjustments.
Installing aluminum panels on a curved surface required exceptional precision to align the panels without gaps, ensuring both structural stability and an aesthetically pleasing final result.
As the canopy is situated outdoors, the aluminium panels must withstand heavy rainfall, intense sunlight, and ultraviolet radiation. Under these conditions, they must maintain an aesthetically pleasing appearance while ensuring long-term structural integrity.
To tackle these challenges, the project team implemented multiple solutions, focusing on precision measurement, bespoke panel production and material durability.
3D laser scanning was used to capture the complex geometry of the rain canopy with high precision. This data allowed the team to create accurate digital models, ensuring that each aluminum panel matched the exact curvature and dimensions of the structure.
Leveraging the 3D scan data, the team designed custom aluminum panels that fit the exact specifications of the canopy's structure. This approach minimized on-site adjustments and ensured that the panels would fit the structure, improving the efficiency of the installation process.
Aluminum panels are lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and highly durable, making them ideal for outdoor canopy applications. Their surface coatings are specially treated to maintain long-lasting color stability and withstand harsh conditions, including high humidity, temperature fluctuations, and direct sunlight. Once installed, these panels require minimal maintenance, offering a cost-effective and reliable solution for exterior rain canopies.
By leveraging high-precision 3D scanning, the team ensured accurate measurements, optimized panel design, and minimized on-site errors and material waste. Durable, corrosion-resistant aluminum panels provide long-term performance with minimal maintenance, while precise installation maintains both structural integrity and aesthetic appeal. This project demonstrates how advanced digital measurement and fabrication techniques can deliver a high-quality, efficient, and cost-effective solution for modern outdoor canopy structures.
